36 Human food items you can feed your cat

It isn't till I have meat on my plate that my two boys begin to sniff the air and follow their nose to my plate. There are times they will use their paws to try and swipe some meat off of my plate onto the floor for them to eat. Makes sense, cats are known as carnivores and seem to be the pickiest of eaters. Picky or not -- you can give the below 36 items to your cat (always consult with a veterinarian when making changes to your cats diet) and a few recipes:

  1. Asparagus (cooked/steamed) - okay to have in moderation, asparagus is thought to help with UTIs

  2. Broccoli (cooked/steamed) - okay to have in small quantities, broccoli is rich in antioxidants

  3. Carrots (cooked/steamed) - okay to have in moderation, these treats are high in fiber

  4. Peas - is okay to have in moderation, a good source of protein if your cat has allergies to other types of food proteins

  5. Pumpkin (pure pumpkin, nothing added) - okay to have in moderation, pumpkin is thought to help with stomachaches, constipation, and hairballs

  6. Spinach - okay to have in moderation, contains beneficial vitamins

  7. Barley - great digestive grain full of enzymes for your cat and is know to help with digestion

  8. Millet - offers protein to your cat but contains some fat

  9. Oatmeal - okay to have in moderation, avoid adding high levels of salt, butter or milk

  10. Oats - okay in moderation

  11. Coconut oil - okay in moderation

  12. Wheat (organic) - contains nutrients for your cat

  13. Brown Rice - okay in moderation

  14. Salmon, trout, herring, mackerel, tuna and whitefish (cooked and little to no salt)- great source of protein

  15. Chicken, lamb, pork, turkey, pheasant, beef (cooked and little to no salt) - great source of protein

  16. Eggs (cooked) - okay in moderation, protein-rich food source

  17. Lactose free milk - okay in moderation

  18. Apples (be sure to take off the skin and avoid the seeds) - okay in moderation

  19. Banana - okay in moderation, great source of potassium

  20. Blueberries - okay in moderation

  21. Cantaloupe - okay in moderation

  22. Catnip - okay in moderation, known to give pleasure and relieve their stress

  23. Valerian - okay in moderation, known to help with kitty depression, obesity, or lethargy (suggested to make into a tea, 2 cups of water and a sprinkle of herb)

  24. Basil - okay in moderation

  25. Dill - okay in moderation

  26. Thyme - okay in moderation

  27. Rosemary - okay in moderation

  28. Cilantro - okay in moderation

  29. Cat Grass - okay in moderation

  30. Common Mint - okay in moderation, known to help with halitosis and digestion

  31. Cat Thyme - okay in moderation, known to stimulate your cat

  32. Licorice Root - okay in moderation, is known to have anti-inflammatory properties (suggested to make into a tea, 2 cups of water and a sprinkle of herb)

  33. Chamomile - okay in moderation, known to help with upset stomachs (suggested to make into a tea, 2 cups of water and 1/2 tsp of Chamomile)

  34. Calendula - okay in moderation, known to help with allergies or irritated skin (suggested to use these flowers to brew into a tea, 2 cups of water and a sprinkle of herb)

  35. Echinacea - okay in moderation, known to help with allergies or irritated skin (suggested to use in a tea, 2 cups of water and a sprinkle of herb)

  36. Dandelion Root - okay in moderation, known to help with feline allergies, digestion and liver detoxification (suggested to use in tea, 2 cups of water and a sprinkle of herb)

Recipes & Enhancements


Tuna Treats

Ingredients:

1 cup of Blended oats (you can use organic whole purpose flour)

Tuna & the water

Catnip

1 egg (preferably the whites only)

1/4 cup of Coconut oil

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl

  2. Knead it

  3. Make into bite pieces

  4. Cook for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees

The Ultimate Protein Meal

Ingredients:

1/2 tbsp of Chicken heart

1 tbsp Turkey mince with bone

1/2 tbsp Green tripe

1/2 tbsp Beef liver

1/2 tbsp Lamb kidney

1 tbsp Green lipped mussel

A pinch of Bone broth spice (not the liquid)

Quail egg

  1. Mix together

  2. Place in beef trachea

  3. Sprinkle hemp seeds or catnip on top

  4. Sprinkle spirulina on top

  5. 1/4 cup of water around the filled beef trachea

Pumpkin Treat

Ingredients:

2 scoops of Organic pumpkin pure

2 scoops of Coconut Milk

1/3 cup of Chicken broth (no sodium)

Sprinkle Catnip

  1. Mix together

  2. Put in silicone mold

  3. Freeze

Herb Kitty Tea

Ingredients:

1/2 tsp of Catnip (or any okay herb as mentioned above Valerian, Chamomile Licorice Root, Calendula, Echinacea or Dandelion Root)

2 cups of water

  1. Place herbs in tea filter

  2. Steep Kitty tea in water

  3. Serve to your cat

Topical Herbs:
  1. Goldenseal (topical herb, not for digestion) - this is used as a natural disinfection on wounds

  2. Witch Hazel (topical herb, not for digestion) - this is used as a topical ointment to put on cat acne
